2 More DAYS!!

Overall is already 12 days in BANGKOK. I am gonna spend 2 more days before going back to my lovely headache country.

Then, what I am gonna do for that?
Fiuh...no idea...after going to few places few drinks few dinners...then everything is just the same.

Tomorrow, there might be a visit to an incridible place where it is difficult to find in anywhere around the world..maybe...

OK, let continue, if I am really going to that place tomorrow..
Will talk more about that.

PEACE

Change logo and support information details in System Information (Sysdm.cpl)

Hi Guys, going to have a new good modification for your Windows XP.
Go to RUN | type SYSDM.cpl then there will be dialog box with OEM Logo and also button of support Information where you could add anything into it.

There will be 2 files to be modified on the Logo and Support information.
It is located on C:\Windows\System, sometimes on C:\Windows\System32.
Those 2 files called OEMLogo.BMP and OEMInfo.ini.
If you put both file in the C:\Windows\System32, it will just override the one in C:\Windows\System.

So, what we are gonna do?

After getting those information above, I think you know what we should do to modify.

Just use your brain to think on the modification part.

Cheers.....

First assignment to Bangkok

Yeah, reached here on 8th November with knowing no one, and picked up by hotel transport.
In the morning, the car from office will pick me up and send me back during off office hours.

First day to the branch office but confusing, everything is written in THAI language.
Second day, still confusing.
Today is the third day, struggling to jump out from the valley of confusion.
But where to go? still don't know yet, trying to figure out after off office hours.

Fiuh...exactly 5 PM by the time I am typing this, just think of one place that I pass by each time going to the office. What place is that? only me know that.........

Hahaha....Yeahhhhh let's go there...!

Useful tools while working with your PC/Laptop

There are several tools that can be downloaded from the Internet. I think they are quite useful for repairing some particular errors, or maintaining your machine.
Here is the list of some tools.
  • CCLeaner
    • It is used for cleaning up your temporarily folder, some website history, cookies, etc.
    • It could be downloaded from www.ccleaner.com.
  • Regcleaner
    • This another software to clean up registry.
  • HijackThis
    • HijackThis, used for troubleshooting on some computer issue, especially viruses and removing some startup list program that being used.
    • Where to download? http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-HijackThis/3000-8022_4-10227353.html
  • SmitFraudFix
    • Tools to cleanup some blinking spyware, normally on your system tray there will be blinking icon, and on some interval, there will be popup message. Use this tool to clean that up.

Get infected by those AUTO-Play viruses?

One day, there were several computers in my office were infected by those auto-play viruses. eq. KillVBS.vbs, Reva.vbs, etc.

So, what should we do?
  • First of all, press CTRL + ALT + DEL, bring up TASK MANAGER.
  • Look for explorer.exe, then right click and END PROCESS TREE
  • RUN again Explorer.exe, it will bring back your desktop
  • Right click on C: drive, click Tools | Folder options | tab to VIEW | uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"
  • It will shows all protected files, look for any suspicious *.vbs files and autorun.inf, remove those.
  • Then, let's go to another steps, go to RUN | type MSCONFIG, tab to STARTUP
  • uncheck any start up processes that execute suspicious *.vbs files.
  • Finally to ensure that no startup process for those *.vbs, go to START | RUN | type REGEDIT.
  • Explore to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\WINDOWS NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon, look for Userinit
  • The default value for userinit should be C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,
  • At the end, you could restart your computer now.
That's all for this..........

Disable AutoRun on Windows XP

Why do we need to disable that functions? Will it cause much trouble to start opening files from CD\portable HDD\FlashDisk?
  • Not Really, it will cause more trouble if we get infected by those virus infected the portable disk. Nowadays, a lot of that kinds of viruses, even they just cause a small problem but it is just ridiculous.
Ok Ok, how are we going to disable the autorun function?

Now let's we start.

  1. Go to START | RUN | type GPEDIT.msc
  2. There will be 2 directories, both is having SubDirectories called "Administrative Templates"
  3. Expand each of them, highlight System and look for "Turn off AutoPlay"
  4. Double click on that, tick on "Enabled", and select for "All Drives".
  5. Repeat those steps at the other one.

That is all, but how if we already get infected by those autorun viruses?

Let's continue later, I have something to do now.

Problem to show HIDDEN files in WINDOWS

When we are trying to show hidden files option through Folder Options, there is problem on displaying the hidden files.
SO, what should we do ?
  • Search with uncle GOOOOOOGLE, as a result I cannot find the solution. Maybe, those keywords I used were not precise.
  • Somehow, I tried to make some changes on the registry. How did I do that?
    • START | RUN | type REGEDIT
    • Browse to HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden
    • There will be 2 Keys: NoHidden and ShowAll, Each key contains 2 particular values which are CheckedValue and DefaultValue
      • The Value for 1 should untick the selection inside the folder options and the value 2 will tick for the selection.
      • Try to match the current selected options within your folder options.
      • Modify the registry by referring to that selected options. Now, everything will back to normal.
Fiuhhh....Finally....!!
